As a huge anime nerd I often get asked. What anime do I think is the Best Animated Series? So I made this list which contain American, Japanese and Chinese animated series in it. Some anime can get out there. Check the ratings before watching if needed. The list is rough alphabetical order and mostly contains anime series which have been completed. Avatar: The Last Airbender & Legend of Korra are two of the most popular Anime shows in recent years. The story lines are engaging, the characters are lovable, and the fight scenes are epic. BNA (Brand New Animal):

BNA was one of the most highly-anticipated shows of the year, and it did not disappoint. Created by Netflix. Castlevania (2017) is an anime series based off the video game franchise of the same name. It tells the story of Trevor Belmont, Alucard and Sypha as they battle against Dracula and his dark forces in 15th century Eastern Europe.

The show’s animation perfectly captures the gothic horror aesthetic of its source material, with detailed backgrounds and detailed character designs. The show also features an intense soundtrack that helps to create a tense atmosphere in its darker moments.

Deltora Quest:

Dororo:

Evangelion and Neon Genesis Evangelion:

Evangelion is a Japanese anime series created by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production. They also made a few movies. The anime is set in a future where the world is being threatened by giant aliens called Angels. The only way to defeat the Angels is by using giant robots called Evangelions, which are piloted by teenagers.

 

Escaflowne:

Escaflowne is an anime series that was created by Sunrise. The anime is set in a fictional world called Gaea, and follows the story of Hitomi Kanzaki, a high school student who is transported to Gaea after she faints when she sees a visions of a boy being stabbed. When she arrives in Gaea, she meets Van Fanel, the young prince of a country called Fanelia. Van is on a quest to find the legendary Dragon Armor Escaflowne, and Hitomi finds herself drawn into his journey. The anime series was very popular when it aired in Japan, and has since gained a large following around the world. The series is notable for its use of mecha designs, and its detailed and intricate world-building. If you are a fan of anime or mecha series, then Escaflowne is definitely worth checking out!

FMA (Full Metal Alchemist): Brotherhood:

FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) Brotherhood is an anime series that tells the story of two brothers who are trying to find a way to bring their mother back to life. In the process, they discover the secret of alchemy and must use it to battle against the evil forces that are trying to create the Philosophers Stone. The series is full of action, adventure, and suspense, amazing character development and it is sure to keep viewers entertained from start to finish. Anime FMA (Full Metal Alchemist) Brotherhood is a must-see for any fan of anime.

FLCL (Fooly Cooly):

Anime FLCL is a 6-episode anime series that aired in 2000-2001. The series was directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki and written by Yōji Enokido. The series follows Naota Nandaba, a 12-year-old boy living in the fictional town of Mabase who is thrust into a world of weirdness and wonder when he is hit on the head by a blue alien woman named Haruko Haruhara. The series has been praised for its originality, creativity, and surreal humor. The first season is amazing and have watched it countless times. However, many years later they made two more seasons that did not hold a candle to the first season. FLCL has an AMAZING OST as well.

Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night:

Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night  both follow the story of Emiya Shirou, a young man who becomes involved in the Holy Grail War, a battle between mages to win the ultimate prize. Fate/Zero is set in the Fourth Holy Grail War, while Fate/Stay Night takes place in the Fifth. Both series are highly acclaimed for their complex storylines, rich characters, and stunning animation. While they share some similarities, they also have some key differences. Fate/Zero is darker and more action-packed, while Fate/Stay Night is lighter and focuses more on romance. Ultimately, both series are must-watch Anime for any fan of the genre.

Granblue Fantasy:

Can be found on Crunchyroll.com. Granblue Fantasy (2014) is an anime series based off the popular mobile game of the same name. It follows the adventures of Gran, a young boy who discovers that he has a mysterious power known as Primal Force and embarks on a journey to find out where it comes from.

 

Ghost Stories:

This one is also not for kids. The English dubbing of the anime stopped being produced due to low funding from the US or something like that. So the US dubbers decided to turn all of what the characters say into not good things. This is a very dirty anime but it is hilarious.

Hellsing Ultimate:

As the Hellsing Organization’s most powerful weapon, Alucard is tasked with hunting down and destroying supernatural threats to the United Kingdom. He is an immensely powerful vampire who possesses a wide array of abilities, making him nearly unstoppable. However, he is not without his weaknesses; while he can regenerate from almost any wound, he cannot tolerate sunlight and is vulnerable to holy artifacts. Alucard is the main protagonist of the Hellsing Ultimate series. He is an ancient vampire who serves as the Hellsing Organization’s most powerful weapon in their fight against supernatural threats. Alucard is immensely powerful, with a wide array of abilities that make him nearly unstoppable. However, he has several weaknesses, such as an aversion to sunlight and vulnerability to holy artifacts.

Invincible:

Invincible is an anime, by Amazon, that tells the story of an average high school student who discovers that he has superpowers. Though he initially tries to keep his abilities a secret, he soon finds himself drawn into the world of superheroics. Along with his father, a legendary superhero, he sets out to protect his city from evil forces. Invincible is a well-crafted anime with exciting action scenes, likable characters and crazy turns. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the genre.

Inyuhasha:

Inyuhasha is an anime adaptation of the manga series by the same name. It follows a group of friends as they attempt to defeat an evil spiritual force that has been terrorizing their town. Inyuhasha’s unique art style and interesting characters make it stand out from other anime. It’s heart-warming, exciting and full of suspense. It’s a must-watch for any fan of fantasy anime.

Mob Psycho 100:

A boy, who is a very strong psychic, seeks the mentorship of a master exorcist… Who turns out to not be psychic but is really good a conning people and actually does not even believe in ghosts or spirits. Mob Psycho is a surprisingly heartwarming and humorous show that explores the power of friendship and the importance of staying true to oneself.

Samurai 7:

Teen Titans:

Not to be confused with Teen Titans GO!!! Teen Titans (2003) is a superhero cartoon that follows the adventures of five teenage superheroes – Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy. The team battles against criminals and super-villains in their city while also dealing with everyday problems like school and friendships. Sadly Teen Titans had dropped production but it is still worth watching for DC fans!

Tales of Zesteria:

Tales of Zesteria is a Japanese anime series based on the video game of the same name. The show follows the game’s protagonist, Sorey, as he and his friends travel across the land of Glenwood, encountering various challenges along the way. While Tales of Zesteria is not the first anime adaptation of a video game, it is notable for its high-quality animation and engaging story. The show has been praised for its strong character development and exciting action sequences. With its intricate world-building and captivating plot, Tales of Zesteria is a must-watch for any fan of anime.

Wolf’s Rain

Wolf’s Rain is an anime series created by Keiko Nobumoto and produced by studio Bones. It premiered in Japan on January 7, 2003 and ran for a total of 26 episodes.

The story follows a group of wolves who are searching for the mythical “Paradise” which is said to be the only place where wolves can live in peace. In this world, wolves are believed to be extinct and are hunted by humans who fear them as creatures of darkness.

The main character of the series is a wolf named Kiba, who is determined to find Paradise no matter what. He is joined by Tsume, Hige, Toboe and eventually Blue – a human girl who can communicate with wolves. Together, they face challenges and obstacles as they journey towards their ultimate goal.

Wolverine and the X-Men:

An early 2000s cartoon about Wolverine attempting to lead the X-Men as Charles Xavier is missing. If you are a X-Men fan than this series will be perfect for you.

X-Men (2011) is an anime series based off the Marvel comics franchise of the same name. The show follows a team of mutants, led by Professor Charles Xavier, as they fight against threats to mutant and human kind alike.

Yashahime:

Young Justice:

Young Justice is an American animated television series which follows the lives of teenage superheroes who are members of a covert operations team known as the Team. The Team is set up by Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Artemis Crock to act as a counterbalance to the Justice League in order to give younger heroes the chance to prove themselves. The members in The Team change often though the story. The first two seasons are fantastic, however the third and final season is pretty bad in my opinion.

Voltron is a Netflix original series that was released in 2016. The series is based on the 1980s anime series of the same name and is set in a futuristic universe where five pilots control giant robotic lions that combine to form the titular Voltron. The show was well-received by critics and audiences alike, with many praising its action-packed storylines and likable characters. Voltron is currently available to stream on Netflix.
